In recent years MBA programmes have developed their business ethics and CSR teaching to stem the criticism of MBA graduates involved in global scandals such as Enron and the recent financial crisis. At Harvard Business School students have even developed their own oath, promising to uphold ethical standards.

In typically innovative style, Lancaster MBA students have gone one step
further. In keeping with the action-orientated focus of the programme,
Lancaster MBA students have decided to take action that will help lift a child
out of poverty.

Through the World Vision charity, Lancaster MBA students have sponsored a
child from Albania. This initiative is funded entirely by the students
themselves, and the intention is that future MBA classes will take up the
challenge and fund the sponsorship of this child during their own year at
Lancaster.

Sponsoring a child was the idea of MBA student Jette Winkler.

Jette said: “We all know how important it is to receive a good education in
order to escape poverty, and we've the opportunity to change this child’s
young life and give her hope and a chance.”
