Lancaster graduate Jonathan Hewitt has won an award for outstanding achievement in his student law exams.

He won the DLA Award, presented by leading international law firm DLA Piper, for the student who obtains the highest combined mark in the Business and Commercial Law parts of the Legal Practice Course (LPC). Anyone wishing to become a solicitor must pass the LPC.

He scored 80 per cent in the Business Law exam and 94 per cent in the Commercial Law exam while studying at the College of Law in Chester.

He graduated from Lancaster University in 2007 with a First Class Honours Degree in Hispanic Studies before gaining an MA in European Politics the following year.

Jonathan said: “I’m surprised but very pleased to receive the award. It’s a great end to a very enjoyable two years in Chester.”

He will now start a two-year training contract to qualify as a solicitor with law firm Dickinson Dees in Newcastle.

The College of Law is Britain's largest legal training organisation for both student solicitors and barristers. It has centres in London, Guildford, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Chester and York.
