Who should attend: This workshop is primarily aimed at staff new to the role of minute writer. It will also be useful to staff who may be experienced in the role but feel that their minute writing could be improved.
Content:
• Purposes of minutes
• Roles of chairs and secretaries of meetings
• Drawing up agendas/assisting others to draw up agendas
• How to take notes
• Managing time in writing up minutes
• Structuring minutes: using key words and phrases to best
effect
•Minute styles, uses of tense and reported speech,
conventions of grammar
Upon leaving the programme, participants should be able to:
•Describe the uses and purposes of minutes
•Describe the respective roles of chair and secretary of a meeting
•Draft a fit-for-purpose agenda for a meeting
•Take notes designed to capture essential points
•Effectively follow conventions of language, grammar and structure in writing minutes
