Sports centre tour by HRH Princess Alexandra
HRH Princess Alexandra, founding Chancellor from 1964 until 2004, recently visited the new £20m sports centre at Lancaster University.
Her Royal Highness was received by the Vice Chancellor Professor Paul Wellings and his wife Annette, the Head of Sport Kim Montgomery, sports centre manager Debbie Bell, duty manager Mary Entwistle and the Vice President of Activities for Lancaster University Students’ Union, Marc Handley.
The tour was led by the Head of Sport Kim Montgomery who showed the Royal guest the sports halls, pool and gym.
She said: “Princess Alexandra was extremely impressed with all of the facilities. She was interested to hear that the centre is used by the local community as well as the university population. Whilst here she chatted with customers and was incredibly supportive of the building and the sports centre team.”
Marc Handley said: “It’s fantastic for Princess Alexandra to show her support for what is an amazing sports centre. As an ex-Chancellor, she has got the loyalty and the keen interest in the University which shows what a key contact she is.”
