Dozens of women who want to be their own boss have attended a business workshop at Lancaster University this week.

Lancaster University Student Union Enterprise Unit Create held an event called ‘Enterprise in Heels’ for women considering self-employment.

The event included talks and workshops from extremely successful female entrepreneurs and business women.

Elizabeth Whatley, Create Student Enterprise Supporter, organised the event after realising that female students had a strong desire to set up their own businesses, but often lacked the confidence needed. Elizabeth said: “The day was a huge success and incredibly inspiring. We had such an excellent response from students that we are already planning our next event specifically targeting budding female entrepreneurs.”

Speakers included:

• Jane Kenyon, a serial entrepreneur of the ‘Well Heeled Divas’ - a brand inspiring and empowering 1 million women to step up to entrepreneurship, leadership and wealth contribution.

• An assertiveness and confidence workshop with Sarah Perris and Merryn Myatt of Perris-Myatt - a company specializing in communications for big organizations.

• A business planning and finances workshop with Joyce Tombs and Rachel Marsdin of Moore & Smalley - Lancashire and Cumbria based Chartered accountants and business advisors.

Create aims to help aspiring entrepreneurs to turn their ideas into reality and have had several successful applicants.
