Lancaster University among world’s top 200 Universities
Lancaster University is among the top 200 universities in the world according to the Times Higher Education Supplement.
The THES, which already produces one of the best-known national university league tables, has produced a new international table - the World University Rankings.
Lancaster, which is ranked at 181, is one of just 30 UK universities to be included in the list.
It is also one of just 8 members of the 16 university-strong 1994 group to make it into the top 200.
The top 200 were selected according to five different indicators, which the THES say were chosen to reflect strength in teaching, research and international reputation with the greatest influence exerted by academics. In order to achieve this 1,300 academics in 88 countries were asked to name the top institutions in the areas and subjects on which they felt able to make an informed judgment. The remaining 50 per cent of the score was determined according to a variety of other criteria including: citations per faculty member; faculty to student ratio; percentage of overseas students and percentage of international faculty.
The THES has also indicated it is planning to publish similar tables for major subject areas over the coming months.
