05/19/2005 13:38:55

On Saturday 21st May, from 10am to 3pm, the Department of Continuing Education at Lancaster University will be celebrating 25 years of community learning. Since 1980 the Department has run short courses for adults in subjects as diverse as photography, history, astronomy and psychology, both on campus and in village halls, schools and other community venues throughout Lancashire and Cumbria. The celebration event will take place in the Conference Rooms at Lancaster University, and you are invited to drop in to find out about the many different learning opportunities available for adults.

Free events on the day will include taster sessions of some of the most popular courses (including psychology, geology, archaeology and history) , the opportunity to learn a language in 30 minutes, various workshops (including drumming and Pilates), and activities including painting with acrylics, test your sense of smell, and finding out about family history. There will also be some superb examples of student’s work on display. For children there will be activities including face painting, arts and crafts, games and story-telling.

In the evening there will be an awards ceremony for the Creative Writing and Poetry competitions organised to celebrate the 25th anniversary. There will be readings from winning entries and a booklet of winning and short-listed work. You are invited to attend this event, which starts at 6.30pm and find out more about Creative Writing short courses (including the recently expanded distance learning range of courses).

Refreshments will be available on campus throughout the day, so do drop in and see what opportunities are open to you!
