A delegation of Romanian hospice and palliative care pioneers has visited Lancaster University’s International Observatory on End of Life Care.
The Observatory has built strong links with Romania over a number of years – particularly with Hospice Casa Sperantei in Brasov.
From May 8 to 12 the Observatory hosted a visit from ten Romanian doctors representing five universities including Brasov, Cluj, Lasi and Timisoara. The group included deans and professors of medicine as well as leading figures in the development of palliative care in Romania, such as Dr Daniela Mosoiu, who attended the Observatory summer school in July 2005 and who has close links with Lancaster.
The delegation’s objective was to learn more about how palliative and end of life care is finding its way into higher education and research in Britain. During their stay at Lancaster University the delegation also visited The University of Central Lancashire and Liverpool University.
Funding for the visit came from a European Commission Leonardo da Vinci scheme.
