Computer Expert Wins Award
A Lancaster Computer expert has been awarded a prize for his pioneering work in software development.
Dr Awais Rashid of Lancaster University’s Computing Department was awarded a University Staff Prize for research in recognition of his work on aspect oriented software development – an area which has already won the university international recognition.
Aspect Oriented Software Development is a novel way of breaking software into manageable pieces in order to produce more modular software, which is easier to maintain, adapt and evolve. It is a rapidly growing field with a strong potential to revolutionize the way in which software is developed.
Dr Rashid has been involved with AOSD since its early days and Lancaster University has already achieved significant international recognition in the field.
In March this year Dr Rashid and his team organised the 3rd international conference focusing on the subject which attracted the attention of major industrial players such as IBM. He is also leading a major initiative, part of the European Commission Framework 6 programme, to create a virtual European research centre on the subject involving eleven premier academic and industrial organisations.
